Making sustainability a priority
Our commitment to greener initiatives
Reducing our carbon footprint and limiting negative environmental impacts within the lumber industry is essential – not just for the future of our forests but for our planet. To us, sustainability challenges are opportunities to innovate, and we continuously strive to improve our products, applications, and processes by actively contribute to a sustainable future:
Radio frequency kilns can dry timber up to 10 times faster than conventional kiln methods. What often took weeks or months with non-RF kilns can now take mere days! This results in significantly less power used on each load, with faster production and turnaround times.
RF kilns do not require stickers between layers of lumber. With an RF kiln, we want surface contact between wood as part of our process – because it helps to establish the energy field evenly which results in a more consistent drying. Without the need for stickers, labour costs to apply them is eliminated together with the occurrence of sticker stain. It also saves up to 30-40% of kiln volume on each load, meaning impressive energy efficiency.
RF kilns run solely on electricity, thereby eliminating the need for large commercial boilers. This creates a greener footprint as there is no need to use carbon fuels. RF Kilns are energy efficient using the rapid movement of the water molecules found within the wood to create heat. This process is known as direct heating. Other kilns using hot air, hot water or steam are less efficient because they transfer the heat indirectly. RF Kiln Tech’s drying technology is the most efficient way to heat wood; using the moisture in the wood to enhance the drying process!
Our RF kilns also use less electricity than a conventional kiln. In fact, we can heat treat a pallet for .05 cents, compared to up to .40 cents with other methods.
Invasive species such as the emerald ash borer and long-horned pine beetle are invading North American forests through wood packaging. RF technology is a safe, effective treatment to eliminate these and other target pests.
In order to curb the invasive species problem, all shipping pallets moved between countries must now be treated or fumigated before they are allowed into the receiving country. The need for fumigants and pesticides such as methyl bromide can be avoided completely by using radio-frequency kiln technology instead.
Our kilns are proudly made right here in Canada, using Canadian-sourced products. Other brands of radio frequency kilns are made overseas, without the same high level of quality and workmanship. Shipping from countries like China is not only costly, but also more environmentally hazardous.
It takes large dimensional timber a long time to dry … years in some cases. Using RF kilns, drying times can be reduced from months to days, meaning more efficient production and less needed for facility space to store lumber. Our tightly-packed kilns mean less floor space for your shop as well!
We are in the early stages of using our technology to effectively treat and dry a wider range of products, such as wood chips, hemp and other agricultural products. At RF Kiln Tech, we understand that advancing research and development to improve processes – while reducing our ecological footprint – is a good thing.

Invasive species
The significant damage to our forests by invasive species continues to grow at alarming rates.
